Mac to School: Certified Macs for Education

6/8/2015

If your school has ever purchased or sold Apple products, and done so through Apple, you've no doubt realized that the company offers very little flexibility when it comes to their devices. As a commercial company, Apple does not always meet the needs of a K-12 system. Mac to School is an company with a specific goal of making the purchase and sale of Apple products easier, friendly, and more cost effective for schools.
Originally founded as an Apple repair service 15 years ago, in the last few years Mac to School has been reborn as an Apple hardware provider for K-12 schools. They offer used Apple products of all types, at incredibly affordable prices, and backed by flexible warranties.
If you're considering purchasing or selling Apple products, I absolutely recommend checking out their services, before turning to Apple to buy completely new gear for your school.

Where do the Devices Come From?

In short, the devices that Mac to School sells come from everywhere. The majority come from education environments, both in the states and overseas, but some come from business as well. All of the devices are refurbished by certified Apple technicians who work for the organization, this way there is no middle man, and schools can get gear at a much cheaper price.

Mac to School Warranty

All Mac to School purchases come with a standard 1 year warranty which covers everything except accidental damages, and you can purchase up to a 3 year warranty if that better suits your needs.
The warranty program is incredibly flexible and Mac to School can either send out a new product to replace the broken one, can send out a box so you can ship in your broken gear for repair, or just send out the specific part you need so you can make the repairs yourself.
Additionally, since accidents do tend to happen, especially in school settings, Mac to School will provide all repairs at cost, so schools don't have to spend a lot getting costly repairs.

Buyback Program

Mac to School will also purchase all your used Apple gear, and pickup and shipping is included free of charge. They will even cut you a check for the purchase so you can spend the money on anything your school needs (as opposed to Apple's trade-in program, where schools are forced to use the trade in money on new Apple products).
It's a great program and easy way to transition from Apple devices to any other type of hardware, if your school has chosen to go in a new direction.

Software and Apps

Mac to School will also perform imaging for all your new devices, free of charge. This way, your new computers will come loaded up with all the software needed, and the schools won't have to setup anything on their end. All you need to do is send them one computer that is set up the way you want it to be for the school, and they'll take it from there!

In Conclusion..

If you're considering purchasing Apple products for your school, or you've got old gear to sell, I absolutely recommend checking out Mac to School first. They offer more flexibility, better customer service, and better pricing than Apple. And, while they don't sell new Apple products, everything they do sell has been refurbished by certified Apple technicians and backed by an excellent warranty.
Plus, you can always get a free quote, so really there's no reason not to give them a try. Mac to School has built their organization by focusing on the needs of K-12 and by building positive relationships with schools, and it shows. You can read more about schools' experiences with Mac to School here, but in short, they're absolutely worth checking out.

The only issue with the Mac to School program is that the customer service is HORRIBLE. I purchased a computer for one of my teachers and upon opening it, the thing bricked almost instantly. When I contacted them to try and send it back for a replacement, the sales rep, Kym, was incredibly rude and essentially told me I would have to wait until she could verify my claims. Such awful customer service for an education based division of Apple. I do not recommend them at all for two reasons--1. the product they sold me was not even a functional computer, and 2. the customer service is awful.

I have had a wonderful experience buying 6 iMacs, for my classroom, on two occassions from mac to school. My sales representative was Amber Liembrock [sp?] and our interactions were always informative, polite and jovial. I would certainly buy from you again.
